- The Latest in Fall, Eye and Respiratory Protection
Safety webinars at-a-glance: The latest in fall, eye and respiratory protection
Safety webinars at-a-glance: The latest in fall, eye and respiratory protection
Carly Ingersoll
18 January 2023
Whether working at height or at ground level, workers’ safety is a top priority. Honeywell is committed to sharing helpful resources for both employers and workers to enhance workplace safety programs and provide tips to stay safe in various high-risk work environments. Below, we have summarized several of our 2022 webinars presented by Honeywell safety experts. To explore other safety topics, visit our website.
Rooftop Fall Protection
Workers find themselves on a rooftop for any number of reasons – whether it’s clearing gutters or drains, repairing large HVAC systems, patching holes, fixing skylights or sealing leaky pipes. And the height itself isn’t the only risk: rain and snow that make roofs slick or camouflage the rooftop edge make this job even more dangerous.
On Honeywell’s webinar, Rooftop Safety: Fall Protection Tips to Help Keep Workers Safe, our experts help participants gain a better understanding of the extent of rooftop hazards and the safety solutions that can help protect workers.
The seasoned presenters have visited more than 1,000 rooftops of plants, mills, factories and other buildings. They use their expertise, along with impactful visuals, to explore the various risks with different roof types, pitch levels and weather conditions. The webinar presents practical information to help participants learn about:
- U.S. regulations from OSHA and the rules applying to each of three distinct rooftop zones
- How to identify top hazardous work zones
- Rooftop access considerations such as fixed ladders and hatches
- Considerations for pitched versus flat roofs, like distancing, tie off points and parapet walls
- Which restraint systems to consider in different environments to help prevent falls
- Insights about securing anchorage points, shock absorption and worker mobility
And above all, the webinar serves as a reminder to never take shortcuts when working on a rooftop as even one trip or stumble can lead to serious damage. Taking the right precautions and using the right equipment can help make the difference between workers feeling safe and workers taking unnecessary risks.

Eye Protection
Did you know that eye and facial injuries are #8 on OSHA’s 2021 list of Top 10 Most Cited Violations? These injuries are up from the #10 spot in 2019 – as a result, many employers are taking note and focusing on ensuring workers use proper eye protection.
In Honeywell’s Optical Hazards and Lens Technology webinar, our experts explore the various risks to workers’ eyes, both seen and unseen. For instance, light poses a major risk, whether it’s on the visible light spectrum or UV and laser light. Exposure can lead to cancer and cataracts. The webinar explores:
- Different types of light and the risks posed from each type
- Why sunglasses are not enough to help protect workers’ eyes in different occupational scenarios
- The types of eye protection most appropriate for various types of work, from the hospital operating room to inspecting circuit boards to meat packing, construction and utility work, aviation, transportation and more
- Different lens technology available today and the tints that can filter different types of light
- The importance of occupational vision screening
The webinar also covers risks from obscured vision, such as smeared lenses, water droplets from sweat and condensation and fogging. Experts discuss innovations in anti-fog coating to help minimize these risks, increase worker safety and limit downtime.

Respiratory Protection
First responders, such as firefighters, law enforcement and paramedics, come into contact with a number of different hazards in the air that can have both short- and long-term impacts to health and safety. In Honeywell’s webinar, Respiratory Protection for First Responders, we discuss the various risks encountered during and after natural disasters—like wildfires, hurricanes, floods and earthquakes—as well as chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) incidents, building collapse events and incidents involving fentanyl exposure.
For each scenario, we cover the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to help keep these critical workers safe and healthy from wildfire smoke, mold, drug exposure, crystalline silica and more. We also discuss the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s respiratory protection regulations as well as key steps to put in place before a disaster or incident occurs, such as respirator fit testing and medical evaluations to make sure first responders meet the requirements to wear a respirator.
To learn more safety tips from our PPE specialists and help you continue to operate a safe and effective respiratory protection program, listen to the webinar recording.
