Keep up with the world's transformation with Honeywell's sensing solutions

Everyone is now connected and mobile. By default, seamless, at any time. Sounds simple, right? You open your mobile device and know in real time what your plant’s capacity is, what it is producing, and how much energy it is consuming.

But what does it really mean?

It means that consumers have immediate access to an unprecedented volume of knowledge and information.

They are more educated than ever before due to the expansion of digital technology.

It also means that every company is both a technology and a consumer company at the same time, no matter if they are B2B or B2C, technology or consumer. They are now intertwined due to consumer empowerment and their unlimited access to information.

To be on the forefront, some businesses are connecting their plants to their online ordering systems and shops, producing in real time almost customized products for their customers.

Sensing technology is making it possible

From medical to transportation, from industrial to aerospace, sensors are everywhere. Gas sensors, optical sensors, pressure sensors, and temperature sensors - these foundational devices collect the essential data customers need to make informed decisions and take action.

Sensor market will increase, as their usage will continue to rapidly grow and expand

According to a new report from IBM Marketing Cloud, “10 Key Marketing Trends For 2017,” 90 % of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years alone. And it’s only going to get bigger. Many data analysts are suggesting the digital universe will be 40 times bigger by 2020, according to the same report.

Sensors play a significant role in this

Honeywell sensing solutions is taking the next step to advance our sensing technology by adding cutting-edge intelligence capabilities from the Internet of Things to our sensors as well as cloud-based computing technology.

Technology consulting firm, Gartner, forecasts the number of connected things being used worldwide will triple in growth to nearly 21 billion by the year 2020.

In an article posted by iBASEt1, they report that 42% of IoT developers are currently writing software that uses sensors.

This represents a great potential for the sensing business, not only in terms of volume, but also in terms of diversification and addressing and cooperating with new important players – software writers and innovative start-ups – to develop new and breakthrough applications for end users. Honeywell is well positioned to work with these players due to the breadth and depth of its sensor and switch product offering (see sensing.honeywell.com).

Honeywell HPM Series Particulate Matter Sensor

The Honeywell HPM Series Particulate Matter Sensor is a laser-based sensor which uses the light scattering method to detect and count particles in the concentration range of 0 μg/m3 to 1,000 μg/m3 in a given environment. A laser light source illuminates a particle as it is pulled through the detection chamber. As particles pass through the laser beam, the light source becomes obscured and is recorded on the photo or light detector. The light is then analyzed and converted to an electrical signal providing particulate size and quantity to calculate concentrations in real time. The Honeywell particle sensor provides information on the particle concentration for given particle concentration range.

    Value for our Customers

    • Enables the ability to more accurately and cost-effectively monitor or control environmental particulate
    • Industry-leading long life of 20,000 hours of continuous use essentially equates to seven years of product life (based on eight hours of operation per day)
    • Proven EMC performance enables the ability to perform more accurately in a variety of tough industrial environments
    • Ultra-fast response time of <6 s allows the HPM Series to respond to environmental conditions in real time
    • Enhanced reliability allows for use in harsh environments
