- Three Benefits of Real-Time Monitoring for Worker Safety
Three Benefits of Real-Time Monitoring for Worker Safety
Three Benefits of Real-Time Monitoring for Worker Safety
Andreea Budica
17 August 2020
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the number of fatalities from exposures to hazardous substances in 2013 represented 12% of the 4,405 worker fatalities in the United States. Approximately 112 workers died from exposure to hazardous substances last year.
Find out how Safety Suite Real Time, Honeywell's newest integrated gas monitoring software solution, can help you prevent incidents, respond to emergencies quickly, simplify compliance management and drive cost savings.
1. Monitor worker safety in real-time for rapid emergency response
Safety Suite Real Time is an integrated software solution that monitors workers' exposure to gas, changes in vital signs, and ambient weather conditions in real-time, relaying data from your fleet of wireless monitors to a centralized system.
Honeywell's Safety Suite Real Time platform, which integrates seamlessly into plant operations, connects wirelessly to gas detection devices to enable centralized monitoring of assets and workers. The software helps eliminate manual processes, maximizes accuracy and efficiency and minimizes safety costs.
Safety managers can use the platform to monitor workers on the job site and view gas readings, alarms, compliance statuses and more on a map-based display viewable from the command center or any internet-connected device. The solution enables fast, informed decision-making and is designed for easy implementation, either through cloud-based or on-premise software, according to operational needs.
2. Extend centralized monitoring to protect remote workers
Industrial workers often work in environments without a consistent wireless connection. Using Safety Communicator, an app available for use with both industrial-grade and non-industrial grade smartphones, central command centers with Safety Suite can receive data from the worker's instrument via Bluetooth.
They can view and receive alerts on worker safety and view workers' locations to provide quick, timely help in case of emergency. Safety Communicator is a great way to get wireless connectivity without the expense of a private network because it utilizes cellular connectivity for data transmission. And if Wi-Fi connectivity is available, Safety Communicator helps ensure continuous wireless monitoring when a worker is out of mobile coverage.
Safety Suite Real Time and Safety Communicator keep control room operators and lone workers connected via cellular networks. With this software, you have real-time visibility to worker location and detector status irrespective of the worker's location. You can also receive man-down alerts, panic alarms and communicate with two-way SMS messages or text messages on the gas detector, so your lone workers are just a click away.
3. Rapidly integrate with third-party applications to build custom solutions
Safety Suite Real Time software development kit allows for data integration with third-party applications such as decision control systems, public warnings and predictive analytics systems. The SDK provides web services that internally communicate with Safety Suite to share real-time data with third-party applications.
