This Flu Season Is the Worst We've Seen In Recent Years; It Might Be Time to Wear a Mask Again

20 February 2023
Each year, scientists track flu patterns and with flu season currently in full swing, the data is showing that this one is more severe than in recent years. Flu season generally begins in October, has its peak in December through February and can even last until May. By wearing masks, staying home, and taking extra precautions to stay healthy, flu case numbers were lower during the pandemic; with the return to normalcy comes a harsher flu season.
Health experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that so far this season, there have been at least 25 million illnesses, 280,000 hospitalizations, and 17,000 deaths from flu. Additionally, more than five times as many people have been hospitalized for the flu just this season than in any of the last 10 years. There is a lot you can do to protect yourself this winter, such as avoiding others who are sick, washing your hands often, and covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
Another way to help prevent catching the flu is to wear a properly fitted mask. There are a variety of masks to choose from, but if you’re looking to reduce your risk of colds and flu this season, you may want to try a disposable mask like the DF300. Engineered to promote easier breathing, the NIOSH approved DF300 Series are made with a multilayered absorption media that repels moisture and features a smooth inner lining for added comfort. This mask folds flat so you can take it with you wherever it’s needed, and the moisture resistant filter allows you to wear it comfortably for longer. The DF300 is designed to fit most faces and accommodate users’ facial movements, so you can count on your mask to stay put.
If you’re looking for a more structured mask to wear all day, the DC300 has a strong, rigid outer shell that prevents the mask from collapsing, especially in high humidity. It has the same moisture and humidity resistant filter media that our DF300 mask has, repelling moisture to for a longer lasting respirator. The DC300 has an exclusive design that minimizes pressure points and contours to the natural shape of the face while providing outstanding respiratory protection.
We are currently passing the peak of flu season, as cases normally begin to decline after February, but it is always best to be prepared and practice good hygiene and consider wearing a mask to protect yourself and others. No matter the type of face cover you choose to wear, make sure it is fitted properly to guarantee its effectiveness. Your face covering, mask or respirator should cover your face and chin while fitting snugly but comfortably. While no single piece of personal protective equipment (PPE) can be guaranteed to prevent virus transmission, having the right safety solutions can help us protect others while also protecting ourselves.
