    Overview

    HONEYWELL SALISBURY® CABLE SPIKE TOOLS

    Hydraulic Cable Spike

The Hydraulic Cable Spike is designed to verifythat underground cable, up to 1000 MCM, is de-energized before cutting, repairing, splicing or replacing. The cable spike, a solid brass body with a stainless steel piercingtip, is fitted to hydraulic compression tools so that the cable can be accurately spiked from a safe distance. An anodized aluminum insert is included to position the cable precisely.

The Cable Penetrating Ground Clamp is designed to be used either as a tool for “spiking” jacketed cable or as a part of a grounding assembly used to bond both ends of an opened cable. The 7/8” long plated steel point is inserted intothe eye screw making a low resistant one piece spear. If one point becomes blunted it may be sharpened or replaced with a new spear. Clamps are aluminum body with either smooth or serrated upper jaws. The hard aluminum serrated insert makes optimum contact with the stranded neutral shield.

The adapter fits the following tools, which are not supplied by Salisbury:

    • Huskie EP610H
    • Burndy Y46
    • Brock 13-H

Hydraulic Ground, Blade, and Cable Spike Clamps

Spiking cable at a work location is necessary when cableconductors and terminal apparatus are not exposed, orcapacitive test points cannot be tested de-energized withan approved voltage detector.

Cable spiking tools are portable testing devices used toprove underground cable conductors de-energized. Forworkers safety, only tools designed and rated for spikingcable should be used in this application. Cable spiking devices may be used only by, or under thedirection of, a qualified electrical worker and whenany one or more of the following applies:

    1. The cable termination(s) or apparatus are not exposed or accessible and cannot be tested deenergized with an approved voltage detector and grounded.
    2. The underground cables cannot be traced visually or physically to the work area from an applicable grounded point in the same manhole, vault, subsurface enclosure, or excavation that contains the cables.
